CAULDRONS & FURNACES
Flintshire ArtsFest ’12Thursday March 15 2012
Time: 7.30 pm
Connah’s Quay Civic Hall, Connah’s Quay, Flintshire
This performance is the cumulation of the Flintshire Cauldrons & Furnaces project which consists of school dance residencies that began in January 2012.
The six schools performing are:- Ysgol Maes Garmon
John Summers High School
Ysgol Maes Hyfryd
Hawarden High School
Castell Alun High School
Connah’s Quay High School
Some elements of this performance will form part of Flintshire’s Cultural Olympiad event, THE SPIRITS OF DRAGONS which will be performed at Flint Castle on Saturday 23 June 2012.
Also on the bill is SEARCH & FIND performed by Anthony Missen and Kevin Turner of Company Chameleon. This physically awesome and sensitive piece explores the themes of connection and disconnection, and was hugely successful when it was performed as part of the SWITCH project in December 2011.
WREXHAM XPLODE II
Friday March 23 2012Time: 6 pm to 8 pm

Ticket prices £6 and £5 (concessionary) and £15 family ticket.
This performance is the part of the WREXHAM XPLODE II project and the schools participating include:

Castell Alun High School
Wrexham Youth Dance Technique & Performance Class
The professional company on the bill is Company Chameleon, and Edge FWD a university student group.
Company Chameleon will present Before Night Fell, an exploration of male identity, friendship, camaraderie and bravery.
“Each dancer crosses the stage balancing in rough-cut logs and need the support of a partner as one is without the use of eyes and the other legs”
Edge FWD is a unique all-male dance troupe established in 2010 at Edge Hill University with the aim of providing its members with a range of creative opportunities, as well as innovative platforms, to work and perform collectively.
Edge FWD has been performing, teaching and encouraging boys and young men to feel confident about dancing and helping them to see dance as a positive study and career choice. They are keen to break down stereotypes often associated with the male dancer.
WREXHAM XPLODE II DAY OF DANCE
Saturday March 31 2012Time: 10am to 4.30pm
Catrin Finch Centre, Glyndŵr University, Mold Road Wrexham
Price for the whole day is £15, or £4 per class or £8 for professional class.
A day of master classes led by professional dance artistes in Latin, Salsa, Ballroom, Musical Theatre, Ballet, Contemporary and Street Dance and a workshop led by a professional dance company.
The Day of Dance is open to anyone with a passion for dance in the community.
There are separate classes for beginners, and intermediate/ advanced, and also mixed ability classes.
WREXHAM XPLODE II: ALLEVIATE & VERVE
Saturday March 31 2012Time: 8 pm
Catrin Finch Centre, Glyndŵr University, Mold Road Wrexham
Ticket prices £10 and £8 (concessionary)
School groups of 10 or more may have one free ticket.
XPLODE II, an evening of professional dance with performances by ALLEVIATE and VERVE
VERVE is a company of twelve exciting dancers who trained at The Northern School of Contemporary Dance and will present an exclusive restaging of Akram Khan’s Vertical Road, alongside an exhilarating programme of contemporary dance selected from a repertoire of newly commissioned work by Lea Anderson, James Cousins, Milan Kozánek and Jordan Massarella.
ALLEVIATE is a young contemporary duo who fuse together their different styles to create fanciful fireworks on the dance floor.
Alleviate captured the hearts of thousands of fans and brought the judges to their feet, following their breath-taking performances that saw them reach the final three acts in the last series of Sky 1’s Got To Dance.
